Morning Routine: The Ayurvedic Dinacharya for Modern Life
The classical morning routine has ten steps. Here are the four that fit a working schedule and still make a real difference.
Dinacharya — the daily routine — is one of Ayurveda's most practical contributions. The full version is not realistic for most people. These four are.
1. Wake before sunrise
The hour before dawn is Vata time — light, clear, mentally sharp. Waking during it is easier than waking during the heavy Kapha hours that follow.
2. Warm water first
A glass of warm water, optionally with lemon, stimulates elimination and rehydrates after eight hours without fluid.
3. Tongue scraping
Thirty seconds with a copper scraper removes the overnight Ama coating that brushing alone leaves behind.
4. Herbal juice on an empty stomach
Absorption is highest before food. This is when a daily wellness juice does the most work.
